Totally unknown just a few years ago, Golovanov is no longer a stranger to choirs in America and elsewhere outside of Russia. This Cherubic Hymn, his first published work, is from the same opus as his excellent “A Mercy of Peace” and “It Is Truly Fitting,” also for men’s chorus. Although subtitled “in the monastic style,” this easily accessible setting has just enough piquant harmony to make things interesting.
