One of Chesnokov's most striking chant arrangements, this setting of the "Polyeleios" from the Orthodox All-Night Vigil service is based on a melody of traditional znamenny chant, which is heard alternately in stark unison and enhanced by chordal polyphony. Originally written for mixed voices, this arrangement for single-gender voices was made by the composer himself.
