Archpriest Sergei Glagolev (1928-)

GLAGOLEV, Archpriest Sergei (1928-) was immersed in Orthodox choral music since his childhood. He graduated from NYU and St. Vladimir’s Seminary in 1949 and was orained into the priesthood in 1952. A pioneer in incorporating English into the Orthodox services, his works carry a distinct “American Orthodox” identity. His music bears the influence of Russian choral masters such as Kastalsky, Gretchaninoff, and Chesnokov as well as J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, and Palestrina.
