TITOV, Vasily Polikarpovich (b. c. 1650; d. c. 1710) — served in the choir of the Tsar’s Singing Clerics; one of the most gifted composers of the his time. Worked primarily in Moscow, although his works were disseminated throughout Russia, as evidenced by the numerous manuscript copies of various provenance. Titov’s compositional output includes more than 200 sacred musical works (most of them remain unpublished), ranging from chamber ensembles to works for 8, 12, 16, and 24 voices; no fewer than 100 of them are concertos. He also composed the music for the Versiļ¬ed Psalter of Simeon Polotsky.
