Since 1995, Musica Russica has provided expertly written reviews and ratings for a wide-ranging selection of CDs. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive selection of Russian choral music--sacred, secular, and folk--as well as Orthodox Christian liturgical music in a variety of styles and national origins. Why are some recordings not rated?

The star-rating system is an easy way for us to share our observations in our field of expertise, which is Russian and Slavic choral music. There are many areas of music, however, in which we are not experts, such as Byzantine Chant or Georgian singing. For this reason we do not rate CDs with those types of music. We also do not rate CDs recently recorded in North America by currently practicing Orthodox church musicians, many of whom are our friends and colleagues.
