A brilliant and sonorous work, this setting of the ancient Christian hymn Gladsome Light is one of at least seven composed by Pavel Chesnokov. Appearing in an anthology published in 1916, shortly before the Russian revolutions of 1917, it has remained obscure and little known throughout the Orthodox choral world, even in Russia. This is the first modern-day publication of it. Also available in an arrangement for TTBB.
