Together with Cat. no. H65, this CD is every Ukrainian carol lover’s dream! By comparison with N65, this CD is done in a grander style—whereas all the singing on the other disc is unaccompanied, here the “Kyiv” Chamber Choir is joined on most tracks by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. While some listeners may prefer the simplicity of the traditional a cappella style, others will agree with the liner notes that “contemporary life calls for new approaches and interpretations...” If you get both CDs, you can judge for yourself. Notes and titles are in Ukrainian and English; no text translations are given.--V.M.
