More and more, Greek Orthodox church choirs in America are exploring the promise and evangelistic potential of singing divine hymnody in English. One of the pioneers in this area is composer and arranger Kevin Lawrence, who leads his choir on this, their initial CD. Most of the selections are in English, a few are in Greek, while others are rendered in both languages, showing that «it can be done.» Under Lawrence's capable leadership, the choir of amateur voices rises to the occasion, delivering respectable a cappella renditions (no organ!) that should inspire many other parish choirs to strive for a similar level of achievement. --V.M.
