REVIEW
In this landmark CD, the monks of St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery in Florence, Arizona, chant a number of "classic" Byzantine chant compositions from the 18th-20th centuries as well as contemporary chant realizations and adaptations by members of the brotherhood. The remarkable thing is that they do it in English! This is not the first CD of Byzantine chanting in English, but it is certainly one of the most authentic-sounding. The "Enhanced-format" CD also includes all the sheet music used on this recording in both Byzantine and Western notation. This CD is an excellent resource for anyone wishing to gain an introduction to Byzantine chant.--V.M.
